What is happening and who is paying for it?
This roadwork is part of the 2020 Road Resurfacing Agreement between Bridgewater Township and Somerset County. Under this agreement, road repaving projects are funded by Bridgewater Township, but put out for bid and managed by Somerset County
This program saves Bridgewater Township money. Because Somerset County is putting such a high volume of projects out for bid at one time, the price of those projects is lower than it would be otherwise.
How does the program relate to the Universal Road Assessment, and all the road projects I’ve heard about in the past?
The program and the roads improved und it are entirely separate and distinct from the Bridgewater Township programs about which we have recently released extensive information about.
Those programs are funded, approved and managed solely by Bridgewater Township, with no County involvement.
Exactly what type of work is being done?
Designated roads will be milled and paved. This program does no support comprehensive road reconstruction projects.
What is the current status of this project?
The list of roads for 2020 has been selected by the Bridgewater Township engineering staff, approved by the Township Council, submitted to Somerset County, and approved by Somerset County officials.
We are now working on taking preparatory steps so that construction can begin, including the engineering and construction of ADA-compliant ramps and minor drainage repairs along the selected roadways.
What roads are being improved and when is the work being done?
The Bridgewater Township roads selected to be paved under the 2020 County Co-Op Program are:
Beach Avenue
Donald Drive (North & South)
John Christian Drive (from Garretson Road to Ron Court)
Wight Street
Cross Road
Ron Court
Vorhees Road
Both Bridgewater Township and Somerset County officials are hopeful that these road projects will be completed this calendar year, but because we are still early in this process, it would be irresponsible of us to absolutely guarantee that outcome to you at this time.
When will the OCR next release an update about this project?
We expect to release further information about these projects approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of construction. There are several additional steps which must be taken before construction begins, but we hope that construction will be able to start sometime this fall.
Who can I talk to about this?
Bridgewater residents are always welcome to contact the Office of Constituent Relations with any questions, comments or concerns the may have. You can reach the OCR at OCR@bridgewaternj.gov.
